 At the China Chef
 
 She sits alone, jacket hugging
 her shoulders, sipping tea, picking
 
 at scallops with straw mushrooms,
 white rice, wondering why she came
 
 here again, here where she and John
 dined on shrimp drenched in sweet
 
 and sour sauce, where she taught him
 to hold chopsticks. As she eats, she turns
 
 pages in Good Housekeeping, tries
 to read another paragraph of this month's
 
 novella. Must be a sad story,
 the waiter thinks, seeing her tears.
